Ola Lindgren and Staffan Olsson, the new national coaches of the Swedish team, have their first test: the qualification for the European Championship 2010 in Austria. In their first match they play against Turkey in Karlskrona on the 2nd of November. In the squad that includes eighteen players many young talents are taken into account. Five of them are chasing the ball in the domestic Eliteserien. And other young players are waiting in the wings.

After the retraction of Georgia Turkey, Poland, Montenegro and Romania are their opponents on the way to Austria. The two teams of every group which are placed best will qualificate for the European Championship from the 19th to the 30th January 2010.

Ola Lindgren and Staffan Olsson announced their squad for the game against Turkey on Monday. Furthermore ten players are nominated for the reserve. For the two following games against Poland and Romania they will again announce a squad.

Peter Gentzel, Stefan Lövgren and Ljubomir Vranjes have ended their career in the national team, Martin Boquist and Tomas Svensson take a time out and Marcus Ahlm will cure his back problems. He will be replaced by Robert Arrhenius. After the escapade with alcohol the three players Oscar Carlén, Sebastian Seifert and Fredrik Petersen are missing in the squad until the end of the year.

Double restart in the "Tre Kronor" team

The squad shows the functioning of the new duo, the players became younger. Two debutants and two players without international experience but with great potential get the chance to show their good performance. And also among the reserve players the rejuvenation goes on. Established players like Jonas Larholm and Magnus Jernemyr fell victim to this brave and new course.

One would like to show that one counts on young players. And one hopes that they develop faster through the contact to the national team, explained Lindgren to the "Aftonbladet". The buildup of the squad proceeded almost boring because he was at one with Lindgren, added Olsson.

Palicka part of a trio of keepers from the "Bundesliga"

After the glorious era of Svensson and Gentzel the time for a new generation has arrived. In addition to Beutler and Sandström Andreas Palicka, who plays for Kiel, gets his chance. Nonetheless, Svensson left the door to the national team ajar, with the World Championship in Croatia in mind.

Hopes are pinned on Ekdahl du Rietz and Stenbäcken on left backcourt

Especially on the left backcourt and the right wing the change becomes apparent. There is no way around Kim Ekdahl du Rietz on the left backcourt, who played already two times for the national team and is no insider tip in Europe. The young Jonathan Stenbäcken gets his chance because of his good performance in the league. The third player on this position is Tobias Karlsson, who plays for Nordhorn.

Larsson, new player for Kiel, among the future key players

Lukas Karlsson, who plays for Viborg, might get stronger attention in the future. Due to injuries he was in the shadow of established players. Also Fredrik Larsson, future player in Kiel, gets the chance to show his abilities. And Patrik Fahlgren, reserve player, is called "Swedens Ivano Balic".

Kim Andersson is playing at the right backcourt, especially because Oscar Carlén is missing until 2009. In the absence of this talent Andersson shares this position with Patrik "Pava" Johanson, who is playing for Hammarby. The reserve player Johan Jakobsson got the commendation "newcomer of the year".

Nestling Ekberg biggest surprise

The consideration of the 19-years old Niclas Ekberg, who is playing for IFK Ystad, came like a thunderbolt. He nearly got a shock when he found his name on a list for the squad on the internet, betrayed Ekberg to the "Ystads Allehanda".

Mattias Zachrisson attracts attention for his good performance for Guif Eskilstuan. He is rewarded with the appointment to the advanced squad. On the left wing are playing two more experienced players, Jonas Källman and Henrik Lundström. Pivots will be Nicklas Grundsten, who is playing for Hamburg, and Joakim Larsson.

The Swedish squad for the game against Turkey:
