Bundesliga-team MT Melsungen signed Robert Lechte as its third goalkeeper. The Swede comes from the Danish vice-champion Aarhus GF to Melsungen. He signed a two-year-contract. "We want to stabilize the performance of our team and therefore we need three goalkeepers," MT-sport boss Alexander Fölker explains the transfer of the 30-year-old. Lechte, then in the Swedish junior national team, won the European championship in 1997 and the World-Vice-championship in 1999. Up to now he has seven Swedish caps.

"With Mario Kelentric we have one of the best in the league. But what if he loses his form or is even injured? Simon Herold is talented but he still needs time to accustom himself to the level played in the Bundesliga. Herold will get this time under the new coach. For that reason, we signed Robert Lechte since he is a well-experienced player", MT-sport boss Fölker describes the strategy.

Ryan Zingerlsen had already been able to assure himself of the qualities of the newly signed player, since the new coach comes from the First Danish League as well. As a coach he was responsible for the league-opponent Skjern. The integration into the new team will be easier due to his former and future teammate Vladica Stojanovic. Both got to know each other when they played for the Spanish team of Bidasoa Irun.

July 20 will be the first training day. Lechte and the other new signed player, Alexandros Vasilakis (former team: SC Magdeburg), will be presented to the fans on August 1, when MT Melsungen officially starts its new season. Lechte, born in Swedish city Timbro, started to play handball at the age of eight. Beside Irun and Aarhus he also played for Skoevde and Guif in his home-country.
